In case you didn’t know, Scandinavian countries are home to some of the best coffee in the entire world! It is no surprise, then, that fika is such an important part of their everyday life.

Fika is making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat.

My first fika at one of the best cafes in Stockholm, Cafe Pascal. This is the first time I tried a chokladdboll!

Additionally, Swedes have many cultural deserts. Interestingly, some of these deserts are only served during certain seasons of the year.

After living in Stockholm for a year, I have definitely tried my fair share of cafes. So, here are some of the BEST cafes in Stockholm:

1. Rosendals Trädgård

If you could only go to one cafe when visiting Sweden, this is the one you must go to! It is the dreamiest garden cafe open in the spring and the summer. Even more fun, you could take a boat ride to this island! The cafe is found in a greenhouse and consists of a long table of beautiful, fresh sweets. Guaranteed, you will be leaving with more than one pastry!

2. Café Pascal

Cafe Pascal is a chain that has perfected the kanelbulle (cinnamon bun)

3. Åsö Konditori & Bageri

This is a cute little cafe with a view of all sweets being freshly made!

4. Cykelcafe

This cafe has a hipster-feel with cozy seating options. Perfect for having quality conversations with your dearest friends as there is no wifi offered here!

5. Robin Delselius Bageri

This is a modern cafe with a good selection of treats. Has a seating area at the front of the café perfect for socializing and at the back of the café perfect for a peaceful moment.

6. Kafekoppen, Coffeestop, Bellman’s Cafe

For traditional Swedish treats all year round, go to the following cafe’s in Gamla Stan.

Additionally, for a glimpse into the traditional sweets of Sweden, take a look here.

7. Sundbergs Konditori

Go here for a rustic vibe and great sweets!

8. Fabrique

This is a bakery chain that has the main Swedish deserts and all sorts of bread! Come here to try a more buttery kanelbulle that just melts in your mouth!

9. Caffelini

Did you want to make a stop in Italy? Look no further, as you can find some amazing cannoli’s here!

10. Mr. Cake

If you’re missing the treats of North America, come to Mr. Cake for gigantic cakes such as Red Velvet and Caramel, Red Velvet Croissants, “American style” cinnamon buns and other yummy sweets

11. Bröd and Salt

You can’t just go to any location of this Swedish chain, you MUST go to the location by the sea, grab a kanelbulle and coffee, and walk along the coast (location: Tullhus 3, Skeppsbrokajen)

12. Chic Konditori

This place holds a special place in my heart because this is the first cafe I stumbled upon on my first day in Sweden. Many Swedes come here for a peaceful morning with endless coffee refills and a treat (don’t try the kanelbulle here – try something else, like the carrot cake!)

13. Gunnarsons delikatesseri

This bakery is an honorable mention for some fine sweets, amazing cakes like Prinsesstårta, and this insanely delicious chocolate cake! However, keep in mind, these are some fine delicacies so it can be quite expensive.

While in Sweden, try any and every cafe you can, as I’m sure they will all be wonderful! The only cafe I would avoid while in Sweden is Espresso House – this is the Swedes version of Starbucks. The coffee is not that good, nor are the pastries too great at Espresso House. If you would like other recommendations on what to do when you visit Stockholm, check out my travel tips here.
