Blue waters, rocky coast, sandy beaches, cheap sangria, hours of dancing… if this is your ideal summer vacation then you must go to Mallorca!

In summer 2022, Mallorca was the best girls trip I’ve ever had. I remember booking Mallorca with two of my friends, and thinking… meh, do I care to go here? But boy, am I ever glad I agreed to this trip!

Mallorca is one of the most beautiful and underrated locations for a vacation in Europe. Although often overshadowed by its neighbouring island, Ibiza, Mallorca has it all – beautiful beaches, clear waters, incredible mountain views and one helluva good partying scene – all for half of the price!

When to go:

For weather that is over 20 degrees Celsius, you would want to visit Mallorca anywhere from May to October. However, keep in mind that starting as early as September, the chances of rainfall increases.

Where to stay:

Depending on what you are looking for from your trip, there are many areas around the island that are worth staying in.

  • Palma de Mallorca is the main city on the island that basically has everything you could ask for from a destination – amazing food, long beaches, historic architecture, bars, and even public transport to help you get around the city and the island.
  • Magaluf (south) is known as the party centre of the island. It’s quite far and hard to get to from the city centre, so if you are looking solely for a clubbing scene, stay in Magaluf
  • Valdemossa (north)- has quite a few smaller towns scattered among the greenery and mountains. we stayed at. A hostel somewhere here and it was a cute little street with 5 restaurants and shops. It had good access to the absolutely beautiful north coast, that was only a bus ride away
  • Cala d’Or (east)- on the east coast of Mallorca lies a strip of hotels and resorts. Located among beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, Banyalbufar is definitely a location meant for a relaxing, family friendly vacation.
How long to visit:

Your stay may vary depending on what you want to get out of your vacation on the island. If you are just planning on lying on the beach the whole time, then a weekend is definitely enough for this! If you would like to actually adventure around the island, then I would recommend a week for this. It can be a day trip to go to the east of the island, a day trip to go to the north of the island, and not to mention the northeast and southwest.

What to know before you go:
  • Mallorca is a small island that doesn’t have an amazing transport system, but, it’s good enough to use to get to other parts of the island in one or two busses. A car, if you can afford it, would be worth renting in order to get around this island, as it is a beautiful island with a lot to do and a lot to see.
  • Mallorca is quite a cheap summer destination in comparison to places like Italy and Greece (seriously, like a litre of sangria for only 9 euros at restaurants!) Make the most of it!
  • The main language, of course, is Spanish, and this is THE destination to practice your Spanish! People are so friendly and they want you to learn Spanish! So get talking!
